Ngl i'm dealing with a situation and need some guidance.

DOGE layoff with inadequate severance. I've been dealing with this for about 6 months now and the situation isn't improving.

I have worked at this company for 12 years. My position is non-exempt and I do not have a written employment agreement beyond the standard offer letter.

What are the risks if I pursue this? What's the likely timeline?

Been there. Here's what I learned.

I ended up hiring an attorney to send the initial letter, which cost about $2-4 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

Just want to point out — the statute of limitations might be a factor here. In some states it's as short as 1-2 years. Don't sit on this too long.

This happened to me too. Have you tried filing a complaint with the relevant agency? In my case they investigated and it got resolved without needing a lawyer tbh.

This is one of those situations where even a quick legal consult pays for itself.

The retaliation angle is often stronger than the original complaint. If you reported something (harassment, safety violation, wage theft) and then got fired, that timing alone can be enough evidence.
