Quick background on my situation — any input appreciated.

competitor copying my API. I've been dealing with this for about 7 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

This involves software/code I developed over the past 36 months. I do have documentation proving my ownership and timeline.

Should I hire a lawyer for this or try to handle it myself?

This happened to my coworker too.

What worked for me was filing with the appropriate government agency. It took 4-8 months but was worth it.

Real talk: i work in this industry and unfortunately this is very common. The good news is that when people actually push back with legal representation, companies usually settle.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

I ended up filing with the appropriate government agency, which cost about $4-8 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

Have you tried reaching out to your state's bar association? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

Fwiw i went through almost the exact same thing.

In my case, it took about 1-3 months to resolve. The key was escalating to a supervisor/manager haha.

I've dealt with this before.

Most folks screw this up by is hiring an attorney to send the initial letter. I'd recommend being patient with the process instead.
