I've been trying to resolve this on my own but I'm stuck.

reverse engineering software. I've been dealing with this for about 6 months now and the situation isn't improving.

This involves original creative work over the past 31 months. I do have documentation proving my ownership and timeline.

Am I overthinking this or is this a real legal issue worth pursuing?

I've dealt with this before.

I ended up having everything documented, which cost about $3-6 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

I ended up filing with the appropriate government agency, which cost about $4-8 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

I've handled similar cases. Here's my take on the legal issues.

This is a common situation and the law is fairly clear. Under the DMCA safe harbor provisions, compliant with notice requirements fwiw.

I'd recommend documenting everything in writing from this point forward. Keep copies of all communications.

This happened to me too. Have you tried filing a complaint with the relevant agency? In my case they investigated and it got resolved without needing a lawyer.

NAL, but from what I've read, you should check your state's specific laws. That's the general rule anyway, exceptions exist.

Not surprised at all tbh.

What worked for me was filing with the appropriate government agency. It took 4-8 months but was worth it fr fr.

Been there. Here's what I learned.

Don't make the same mistake I did -- is hiring an attorney to send the initial letter. I'd recommend being patient with the process instead.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

The thing that gets people is escalating to a supervisor/manager. I'd recommend following the formal complaint procedure instead.
