DoorDash deactivated me and is holding my last $487 in the wallet, how do I get paid out?

Austin dasher, two years, deactivated last week for "suspicious activity" after one customer dispute on an order I 100% delivered (photo, GPS, the whole thing). I'm fighting the deactivation separately, but here's my immediate problem: I have $487.30 in earned, completed-delivery money sitting in the app. Fast Pay is disabled, the weekly deposit day came and went, nothing hit my bank.

Support chat keeps giving me the same paragraph about how deactivated accounts are "under review." That's my grocery money. Do they get to just... keep it while the review takes however long it takes? Has anyone actually pried their wallet balance out after a deactivation?

From what I've seen in dasher groups, earned balances usually do pay out even after deactivation, just on the slow weekly cycle instead of Fast Pay, and sometimes one cycle late because of the review flag. So the most common answer is annoyingly "wait one more deposit day."

Usually. Not always. The ones that stall seem to be exactly the "suspicious activity" cases like yours, because they treat the money as part of what they're reviewing. Keep screenshots of the wallet balance and every support chat, dated, starting now.

Update: second deposit day passed, still nothing. Support chat gave me the identical paragraph again, word for word. Screenshotted everything per the advice above. Balance still shows $487.30, so at least it hasn't vanished, it's just frozen in amber.

At this point I'd stop chatting and put it in writing: a short, dated message through the support email channel demanding payment of the specific amount for completed deliveries, with the delivery dates listed. Chat agents can only paste the paragraph, but a written demand creates a record.

Question for the more experienced folks though: since we're contractors and not employees, do wage laws even help here, or is a state labor complaint pointless for dashers?

General information, not legal advice. @gig_econ_gwen asks the right question and the honest answer is: it depends on your state, because the classification issue decides which agency doors are open, and that landscape is genuinely messy. But don't let the employee-vs-contractor debate obscure the simpler point: money earned for deliveries the platform accepted and the customer received is owed under the contract either way. A deactivation dispute does not convert completed-work pay into the platform's money.

The practical sequence for a specific dollar amount like this: one written demand stating the amount, the delivery dates, and a reasonable deadline, sent through the channels the agreement designates. If that's ignored, the driver agreement's dispute clause controls what's next, and for amounts like this that usually means small claims where the agreement permits it, or the arbitration process it specifies. Concrete, documented, calm. The $487 claim is winnable precisely because it's specific; the reactivation fight is the murkier one, keep them separate.

Sent the written demand this morning: amount, list of my last 14 deliveries with dates, and a two-week deadline. Within a few hours I got a reply that's NOT the canned paragraph, says it's been "escalated to the payments team for review." First sign of a pulse in a week.

Will update this thread when money moves or the deadline passes, whichever comes first. Thanks all, the separate-the-two-fights framing genuinely helped me write a saner email.
