Free Tier vs. Enterprise Differences

However, 'when properly configured' is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Most organizations I've worked with don't have the expertise to properly set up Microsoft's compliance tools. They're paying for E5 licenses but using E3 features because the complexity is overwhelming.

The licensing complexity is a real problem. I've seen organizations unknowingly violate compliance requirements because they didn't have the right license tier for features they assumed were included.

My recommendation: if you're using Teams for sensitive communications, invest in proper Microsoft 365 configuration by someone who understands the compliance tools. The platform has the capabilities, but they require expertise to unlock."
