Analyze collaboration tool terms for message retention, data export rights, and what your admin can see.
Your work conversations and files live in these tools. Know who can access them and for how long.
Free plans may only retain 90 days of messages. Think you deleted that message? Admins on paid plans can recover it.
Workspace owners can read DMs, export all messages, and monitor activity. That "private" channel isn't private from admins.
Leaving the platform? Export options may be limited—no DM history, no file attachments, or only available on enterprise plans.
Adding contractors or clients as guests? They may have different terms, and your admins may have broader access to their messages.
Third-party integrations and bots can read messages in channels they're added to. Some request broad workspace permissions.
If the workspace owner leaves or the company is sold, all your data transfers with it. Individual users have no say in new ownership.
