Analyze DIY store terms for special order cancellations, installation service contracts, and material return restrictions.
Special orders, custom cuts, and installation services have terms that can trap DIYers and contractors alike.
Special orders (cabinets, windows, custom materials) often can't be cancelled or returned. You ordered it, you own it—even if your project changes.
Store-arranged "installation" uses independent contractors. If work is subpar, the store may disclaim liability—your dispute is with the installer.
Custom cuts, tinted paint, and modified materials are typically non-returnable. That 10-foot board cut to 8 feet? No returns.
Pro accounts have different return windows (often shorter), credit terms, and may require minimum purchases to maintain status.
Tool rental agreements often hold you liable for all damage beyond "normal wear." Damage waivers may not cover everything.
Bought something, then it went on sale? Price adjustment windows are typically 14-30 days. Some categories excluded entirely.
Paste the terms of sale to understand your return and installation rights.
