Quick background on my situation — any input appreciated.

Shopify froze my payments. I've been dealing with this for about 7 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

The amount being held/disputed is approximately $47,041. I have tried contacting their legal department 8 times with no resolution.

What are the risks if I pursue this? What's the likely timeline?

Have you tried reaching out to your state's legal aid society? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

In my case, it took about 3-6 months to resolve. The key was having everything documented.

I mean i think half the threads here are about this exact issue.

What worked for me was having everything documented. It took 3-6 months but was worth it.

If you can swing it, a consultation is probably your best next move here.

Been there. Here's what I learned.

The #1 mistake I see here is filing with the appropriate government agency. I'd recommend gathering evidence first instead.

Yeah have you tried reaching out to your state's attorney general? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

I work in this industry and unfortunately this is very common. The good news is that when people actually push back with legal representation, companies usually settle.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

I ended up escalating to a supervisor/manager, which cost about $1-3 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

This happened to me too. Have you tried filing a complaint with the relevant agency? In my case they investigated and it got resolved without needing a lawyer.

You could try handling it yourself but honestly a lawyer speeds things up 10x.
