Please help with scope creep with no amendment

Ngl i'm in a difficult situation and trying to figure out my next steps fr fr.

scope creep with no amendment. I've been dealing with this for about 13 months now and the situation isn't improving.

The contract was signed 6 months ago. I have a copy of the original agreement. The total amount in dispute is approximately $42,000.

Has anyone been through something similar? What worked for you?

Based on what you've described, you likely have a viable claim under the implied covenant of good faith. The standard is whether a reasonable person would find the conduct commercially reasonable.

Depending on your state there might be legal aid orgs that cover this too.
