I've been trying to resolve this in New York on my own but I'm stuck.

lease says no pets but ESA rights. I've been dealing with this for about 2 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

I have been renting for 8 years. My monthly rent is $3,887. I have a written lease.

Do I have a strong case? What should my next steps be?

Attorney here. Here's my take on the legal issues.

Based on what you've described, you likely have a viable claim under the implied warranty of habitability. The standard is whether a reasonable person would find the conduct uninhabitable.

Before taking legal action, consider sending a formal demand letter. In many cases, this alone resolves the issue.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

I ended up escalating to a supervisor/manager, which cost about $1-3 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

I've seen this play out several times in my field.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

In my case, it took about 1-3 months to resolve. The key was escalating to a supervisor/manager.

I've dealt with this before.

What worked for me was escalating to a supervisor/manager. It took 1-3 months but was worth it.

I work in this industry and unfortunately this is very common. The good news is that when people actually push back with legal representation, companies usually settle.
