I'm in a difficult situation and trying to figure out my next steps.

landlord won't fix broken heating. I've been dealing with this for about 9 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

I have been renting for 1 years. My monthly rent is $2,597. I have a written lease.

Am I overthinking this or is this a real legal issue worth pursuing?

I specialize in this area of law. Here's my take on teh legal issues.

There are several legal theories that could apply here. The strongest is probably the implied warranty of habitability, which requires showing uninhabitable.

Before taking legal action apparently, consider sending a formal demand letter. In many cases, this alone resolves the issue.

Classic scenario honestly.

I ended up filing with the appropriate government agency, which cost about $4-8 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

Have you tried reaching out to your state's legal aid society? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

This happened to me too. Have you tried filing a complaint with the relevant agency? In my case they investigated and it got resolved without needing a lawyer.

I think half the threads here are about this exact issue.

In my case, it took about 3-6 months to resolve. The key was having everything documented.
