I'm in a difficult situation and trying to figure out my next steps.

gym won't let me cancel membership. I've been dealing with this for about 3 weeks now and teh situation isn't improving fwiw.

The contract was signed 4 months ago. I have a copy of the original agreement. The total amount in dispute is approximately $77,000.

What are the risks if I pursue this? What's the likely timeline?

Have you tried reaching out to your state's labor board? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

I ended up filing with the appropriate government agency, which cost about $4-8 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

Yeah been there. Here's what I learned.

In my case if that makes sense, it took about 2-4 months to resolve. The key was hiring an attorney to send the initial letter.

This happened to me too. Have you tried filing a complaint with the relevant agency? In my case they investigated and it got resolved without needing a lawyer.

Real talk: i went through almost the exact same thing.

What worked for me was filing with the appropriate government agency. It took 4-8 months but was worth it ngl.

This is one of those situations where even a quick legal consult pays for itself.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

I demanded to talk to a manager and suddenly they could help/manager. It took 1-3 months but was worth it.

Went through something like this -- ended up getting a lawyer involved which made all the difference.

The choice-of-law clause matters more than people think. If the contract says "governed by Texas law" but you're in New York, you might have to litigate in Texas or under Texas rules. Negotiate this before signing.
