Quick background on my situation — any input appreciated.

construction defect in new home. I've been dealing with this for about 3 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

I have been renting for 3 years. My monthly rent is $1,443. I have a written lease.

What are my legal options here? Is it worth pursuing?

I work in this industry and unfortunately this is very common. The good news is that when people actually push back with legal representation, companies usually settle.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

In my case, it took about 3-6 months to resolve. The key was having everything documented.

I practice in this area. Here's my take on the legal issues.

There are several legal theories that could apply here. The strongest is probably state landlord-tenant code, which requires showing in violation of notice requirements.

The practical consideration here is cost vs. potential recovery. For disputes under $10K, small claims court is often the best route.

Has anyone tried mediation before going to court? In my county, the court actually requires mediation for disputes under $25K. It was faster and cheaper than I expected, and we reached a resolution in one 3-hour session.
