I've been trying to resolve this on my own but I'm stuck.

mold in apartment making family sick. I've been dealing with this for about 14 months now and the situation isn't improving.

I have been renting for 8 years. My monthly rent is $1,473. I have a written lease.

What's the typical outcome in situations like this?

Have you tried reaching out to your state's consumer protection office? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

I practice in this area. Here's my take on the legal issues.

The legal framework here involves both federal and state law. At the federal level, your state's security deposit statute. Your state may provide additional protections.

Before taking legal action, consider sending a formal demand letter. In many cases, this alone resolves the issue.

I keep hearing about cases like this.

In my case, it took about 4-8 months to resolve. The key was filing with the appropriate government agency.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

A lot of people mess up by is hiring an attorney to send the initial letter. I'd recommend being patient with the process instead lol.

I mean if you can swing it, a consultation is probably your best next move here.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

In my case, it took about 1-3 months to resolve. The key was escalating to a supervisor/manager.
