Quick background on my situation — any input appreciated.

HOA fining me for political sign. I've been dealing with this for about 11 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

I have been renting for 5 years. My monthly rent is $834. I have a written lease.

Should I hire a lawyer for this or try to handle it myself?

Attorney here. Here's my take on the legal issues.

There are several legal theories that could apply here. The strongest is probably state landlord-tenant code, which requires showing in violation of notice requirements.

You should consult with a local attorney who handles these cases. Many offer free initial consultations.

Have you tried reaching out to your state's labor board? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

I've seen this play out several times in my field.

I ended up hiring an attorney to send the initial letter, which cost about $2-4 but saved me a lot more in the long run.
