I'm in a difficult situation and trying to figure out my next steps.

domestic partnership property rights. I've been dealing with this for about 10 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

I have already consulted briefly with a lawyer but the other party is not cooperating.

Should I hire a lawyer for this or try to handle it myself?

I practice in this area. Here's my take on the legal issues.

There are several legal theories that could apply here. The strongest is probably the relevant statute, which requires showing actionable.

Before taking legal action, consider sending a formal demand letter. In many cases, this alone resolves the issue.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

What worked for me was filing with the appropriate government agency. It took 4-8 months but was worth it.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

Pro tip: always escalate. The frontline people can't do anything/manager. It took 1-3 months but was worth it.

I spent way more time googling than I should have before just calling a lawyer.

The statute of limitations is the most common way people lose otherwise valid claims. Google your state + the type of claim + "statute of limitations" as a starting point, but verify with an attorney.
