Has anyone dealt with something like this? I'm not sure what my options are.

Square terminated my account. I've been dealing with this for about 14 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

The amount being held/disputed is approximately $10,636. I have tried contacting their legal department 5 times with no resolution.

Am I overthinking this or is this a real legal issue worth pursuing?

I dragged my feet on getting legal advice and it cost me. Don't be like me lol

I work in this industry and unfortunately this is very common. The good news is that when people actually push back with legal representation, companies usually settle haha.

I practice in this area. Here's my take on the legal issues fr fr.

The legal framework here involves both federal and state law. At the federal level as far as I know, the EFTA. Your state may provide additional protections.

One important thing — there are strict deadlines for filing these claims. Don't wait too long.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

In my case, it took about 2-4 months to resolve. The key was hiring an attorney to send the initial letter.

Crossposting my experience here because I think it's relevant: I successfully disputed a charge through my credit card issuer under the Fair Credit Billing Act. The key was filing within 60 days of the statement date and putting the dispute in writing. The credit card company investigated and issued a permanent credit.
