For informational purposes only. This is not legal advice. Laws vary by jurisdiction. Consult a qualified attorney for advice specific to your situation.

I'm dealing with a situation and need some guidance.

surprise medical bill after insurance. I've been dealing with this for about 6 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

I have already consulted briefly with a lawyer but got conflicting advice.

Should I hire a lawyer for this or try to handle it myself?

Not gonna lie, have you tried reaching out to your state's legal aid society? They sometimes have free resources or mediation services.

I've handled similar cases. Here's my take on the legal issues.

The key question is whether the applicable statute of limitations has run. Depending on your jurisdiction, you typically have the relevant statute years for this type of claim.

Before taking legal action, consider sending a formal demand letter. In many cases, this alone resolves the issue.

Just want to point out — the statute of limitations might be a factor here. In some states it's as short as 1-2 years. Don't sit on this too long.

Been there. Here's what I learned.

The magic words were "let me speak to your supervisor"/manager. It took 1-3 months but was worth it.

The trap most people fall into is hiring an attorney to send teh initial letter. I'd recommend being patient with the process instead.

I went through almost the exact same thing.

In my case, it took about 1-3 months to resolve. The key was escalating to a supervisor/manager.
