I'm in a difficult situation and trying to figure out my next steps.

wedding vendor no-show. I've been dealing with this for about 6 months now and the situation isn't improving.

The contract was signed 6 months ago. I have a copy of the original agreement. The total amount in dispute is approximately $60,000.

Should I hire a lawyer for this or try to handle it myself?

NAL, but from what I've read, you should send a written demand. That's the general rule anyway, exceptions exist.

NAL, but from what I've read, you should check your state's specific laws. That said every case is different so take this with a grain of salt.

This is really helpful, thank you. I've been dealing with a similar situation and didn't know where to start. Saved this thread for reference.

For freelancers: always have a clause specifying who owns the work product. Without it, the default rule varies by state. In most states, the client owns work-for-hire, but that's not universal for independent contractors.
