Looking for advice on a legal issue. Here's what happened.

contractor abandoned project halfway. I've been dealing with this for about 4 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

The contract was signed 17 months ago. I have a copy of the original agreement. The total amount in dispute is approximately $63,000.

Has anyone been through something similar? What worked for you?

Yeah nAL, but from what I've read, you should check your state's specific laws. That said every case is different so take this with a grain of salt.

Just want to point out — the statute of limitations might be a factor here. In some states it's as short as 1-2 years. Don't sit on this too long.

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

In my case, it took about 2-4 months to resolve. The key was hiring an attorney to send the initial letter.

NAL, but from what I've read, you should send a written demand. Take the above with a huge disclaimer that I'm just some person on the internet.

Don't make the same mistake I did -- is having everything documented. I'd recommend keeping a detailed timeline instead.

So basically i work in this industry and unfortunately this is very common. The good news is that when people actually push back with legal representation, companies usually settle lol.

I practice in this area. Here's my take on the legal issues.

The legal framework here involves both federal and state law. At the federal level, common law contract principles. Your state may provide additional protections.

Nolo and Avvo have directories if you need to find someone who does this type of case.

Idk but nAL, but from what I've read, you should file a complaint. But yeah, have someone look at your specific situation haha.

I've dealt with this before.

Most folks screw this up by is filing with the appropriate government agency. I'd recommend gathering evidence first instead.
