Professional malpractice claims have shorter statutes of limitation than most people realize. In many states it's 1-2 years from discovery. Don't wait.

For freelancers: always have a clause specifying who owns the work product. Without it, the default rule varies by state. In most states, the client owns work-for-hire, but that's not universal for independent contractors.

Non-compete agreements are increasingly unenforceable. California bans them entirely. The FTC proposed a nationwide ban (though it's been challenged). Check your state's specific rules before assuming you're bound.
