I've been trying to resolve this on my own but I'm stuck.

Square terminated my account. I've been dealing with this for about 4 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

The amount being held/disputed is approximately $23,107. I have tried contacting their legal department 7 times with no resolution.

Am I overthinking this or is this a real legal issue worth pursuing?

Just want to point out — the statute of limitations might be a factor here. In some states it's as short as 1-2 years. Don't sit on this too long.

Square termination is notoriously opaque. They often terminate without providing specific reasons due to AML policies.

What worked for me: I filed a complaint with the CFPB AND reached out to Square exec team via LinkedIn. Got my funds released within three weeks.

For anyone dealing with chargebacks: the key deadline is 45 days for Visa and 120 days for Mastercard. If the processor missed their deadline to respond, the chargeback should auto-resolve in your favor.
