I'm dealing with a situation and need some guidance.

crypto exchange froze my withdrawal. I've been dealing with this for about 6 weeks now and the situation isn't improving.

The amount being held/disputed is approximately $27,316. I have tried contacting customer support 2 times with no resolution.

Am I overthinking this or is this a real legal issue worth pursuing?

Not a lawyer, but I have direct experience with this.

What worked for me was hiring an attorney to send the initial letter. It took 2-4 months but was worth it.

I had a similar issue and ended up consulting with an attorney. It was worth the $200-300 for the initial consultation just to understand my rights.

Quick update on my situation: filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office and got a response within 10 days. They opened an investigation and the company suddenly became very cooperative. Sometimes regulatory pressure works faster than litigation.

For anyone dealing with a company that's ignoring your complaints: file a BBB complaint AND a complaint with your state's consumer protection agency. Companies often respond to BBB complaints because it affects their rating. It's not a legal action, but it creates pressure.

Important update for 2026: the SEC enforcement actions have made exchanges MORE cooperative with individual account holders who file formal complaints.

File a complaint with FinCEN and your state money transmitter regulator. Most crypto exchanges are registered as money services businesses.
