Looking for advice on a legal issue. Here's what happened.

paralegal career advancement. I've been dealing with this for about 11 months now and teh situation isn't improving.

I have already done some research online but the other party is not cooperating.

Do I have a strong case? What should my next steps be?

I've dealt with this before.

I ended up hiring an attorney to send the initial letter, which cost about $2-4 but saved me a lot more in the long run.

Best resources that actually helped my career as a paralegal:

  • For litigation: "Fundamentals of Litigation Techniques" by NITA. Better than any law school textbook for practical litigation skills.
  • For contract drafting: Ken Adams' "A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting." Changed how I draft and review contracts.
  • For legal research: Take the Westlaw/Lexis advanced certification courses. They're free and look great on a resume.
  • For career advancement: Get your CP (Certified Paralegal) from NALA or your RP (Registered Paralegal) from NFPA. Many firms pay a premium for certified paralegals — mine gives a $5K/year bump.

Also: specialize. Paralegals who become experts in a niche area (e-discovery, IP prosecution, real estate transactions, immigration) earn significantly more than generalists. Pick a practice area and go deep.

One piece of general advice: keep every piece of communication in writing. If you have a phone call, follow up with an email summary. Courts love written evidence and hate he-said-she-said disputes.
