The #1 mistake I see here is filing with the appropriate government agency. I'd recommend gathering evidence first instead.
Interesting case study: I submitted a copyright application for an AI-assisted work where I used Midjourney to generate base images, then significantly edited and composed them in Photoshop. The Copyright Office approved registration for the compilation and the human-authored elements, but not for the individual AI-generated images.
This is more common than you'd think. Definitely worth pursuing.
